Joe Tippens (60, Edmond OK) has 39 years of experience in capital markets, business development, acquisitions, private equity and entrepreneurial management.
Since 2001, Joe has been founder and CEO of SCG Advisors and Tippens Investments LLC (Vero Beach, FL and Edmond OK). During that time, from 2001, he (i) co-founded and operated a $500 million private equity fund (until 2013), (ii) was a principal seed investor and Board member in an industrial technology firm in which he still holds as an equity investment, (iii) co-founded and invested in and holds an interest in a vertically integrated (architecture, engineering, environmental and construction management) European real estate development firm with a $4.0 billion backlog and (iv) represented various family offices in M&A sale mandates of their operating companies, totaling over $350 million in exits.
From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Tippens was Chairman of the Board of Commodity Capital Group, Inc. (New York, NY), a FinTech company providing commodity asset-backed securitizations on behalf of major merchants in energy, metals and agriculture commodities. CCG was sold in 2001 to a division of New Zealand based conglomerate Fletcher Challenge. Under Joe’s leadership, CCG was the first company to achieve a shadow rating of AA from Moody’s and S&P on physical commodity assets.
Previous to joining Commodity Capital Group, Joe was President of StadiaNet Sports (Tulsa, OK), which he co-founded in 1996 and sold to Paul Allen (co-founder of Microsoft and owner of the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trailblazers) in 1999, 33 months after start-up.
From 1986 to 1996, he was a Partner at Merrill Lynch Venture Capital Inc. and a VP of ML Capital Markets (New York, NY), where he led numerous private equity transactions as principal investor and sat on 14 different Boards of Directors representing the various funds managed by ML. Additionally, Joe was also involved in the capital markets and investment banking business at Merrill Lynch.
Previous to joining Merrill Lynch, Joe was an EVP of Western Venture Capital Corporation (from 1983) and a Manager in the Audit Division of Arthur Andersen & Co. (from 1979).
Joe is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated, with honors, from Oklahoma State University in 1979 with degrees in Agriculture Economics and Accounting.
